so prominent BLM activist deray mckesson just retweeted this which i think is super cool for various reasons :)))

I did not know this. Is it OK for a non Muslim woman to shake hands with a Hijabi? Or do we do the hand on chest thing too?@popcanpoli

hey so i don’t wear a hijab and i’m not muslim so i definitely don’t have the authority to answer this question (or any other questions i’ve been getting abt this) (i’m just a lil canadian politics blog i didn’t expect this to blow up lol)

BUT here are some tweets by the original tweeter (who wears a hijab) that clarify some things

This is also good if you’re meeting an Orthodox Jewish person who’s not the same gender as you!  Not all Orthodox Jews hold by this restriction, and many consider it a permissible exception to shake hands in a formal greeting context; I’d guess this is parallel to Ms. Soueidan’s last-quoted tweet above.  And as that says, the sensible thing is to wait for initiation.

In 2010, Vancouver-based photographer Hana Pesut embarked on a photo project: taking pics of couples, friends, and family twice: once in their own outfits and again wearing each others outfits against the same background.

The result is Switcheroo—a funny, poignant take on gender bending that conveys an enduring bond between Pesut’s subjects, no words necessary.

I remember the season Christian was in. And he had a problem (because he was fresh out of fashion school) with understanding how to dress bigger women. And Tim Gunn, who has always been a proponent of needing to design fashion for more natural sizes, helped him to get out of that mind set by planting the seed. That growth we see is from this amazing fashion teacher!

Fun fact, hammering metal spikes into tree trunks is a federal crime in the US because environmental activists used to do it in the 80s to fuck up chainsaws and logging equipment.

So you should never use this effective strategy for disrupting logging operations because it is illegal.

Here’s a link describing exactly how to do it, so you can make sure not to by accident.

Logging in the USA is sustainable now, yo.

http://www.fao.org/docrep/meeting/x4995e.htm

Replenishment of timber has exceeded production since the 40′s. Evidently timber companies realized it’s more efficient to plant the trees you cut down, since you can plant uniformly, don’t have to haul them as far, and can control (roughly) when you harvest.

I mean, bourgeois mentality of killing lumberjacks/jills aside, it’s not good for the trees.

So, at least in the USA, don’t drive spikes into trees.

This has been a PSA.

Not only that, but pretty much every logger is a union member and are part of the working class.

Then again, the type of folks that do this love hurting the working class.

They are not specifically targeting the working class they are targeting what they see as workers doing immoral work. Honestly not any better but the difference is still there.

It’s more incidental, due to the fact that they honestly don’t see anybody below a certain socio-economic threshold (usually middle class in urban office jobs) as people. They actually hate the working class up front because they see them as betraying the revolution, behind closed doors because they know the people they hate would be the ones in power if a revolution came.

> spike random trees in forest, most die and become fire hazards and falling hazards for campers and hikers

> Joe Blow lumberjack breaks a chain on a spike sand severs his femoral artery while just trying to make a living doing what humans have done since the stone age

> widow sues company for millions for unsafe working conditions

> huge cash payouts every time this happens times a thousand

> logging now considered more dangerous than ever because any tree could be a hippy landmine, unions demand huge pay raises and hazard pay

> forest fires from random dead wood catching lightning strikes and campfire embers become endemic

> price of lumber skyrockets

> price of housing skyrockets

> white upper middle class hippies no longer have to worry about the poors being able to move up socio-economically and invade their pristine gated enclaves

Terry Crews came out and admitted he had been sexually assulted by someone in the film industry, and is now being blacklisted. I have been a fan of his since Idiocracy, and will continue to support all of his work.

So when you wonder why people don’t come forward with their assults, this is why.

Where are all the bitch men who ask about male sexual assault when the focus is on women but are dead silent when men are actually at the focus.

It’s almost as if Men’s Rights Activists don’t really care about men’s rights. Hmmm….

🤔

Yep….

This misses the really powerful piece of the story: Terry Crews was the one who chose not to do the movie. One of the producers told him, essentially, that he could either do the movie and be drop the sexual assault charges, or continue with the trial and have “troubles”. Terry dropped out because he felt standing against abusers was more important than his film career.

It’s bullshit that he was threatened in the first place, of course, but his response was ballsy. I admire him for it.

Reblog to support Terry Crews and men like him.
